Week 3 is here and season 10 has kicked off with a bang but sadly we've had to see Vanessa Vanjie and Kalorie go home. This weeks episode sees our queens market interesting dating apps and a beautiful feather runway.
The episode begins with some fiery conversation between The Vixen and Aquaria, who is frustrated by The Vixen's win. Her 'Very Best Drag' outfit included a wig she borrowed from Monique Heart, angering Aquaria. Vixen's very best drag was not HER drag. The Vixen was already known for her fiery temper and Aquaria making her comments 'poked the bear'.
When the queens returned, they were tasked with a hilarious mini-challenge - to obey Ru's commands and sell his chocolate bars. The winners of the mini-challenge were the innocently hilarious, tap-dancing Blair St Clair, Irish dancer Monét X Change and Monique Heart with her Jamaican accent.
Team Blair St Clair consisted of The Vixen, Eureka and Miz Cracker and were given the 'End of Days' dating app for doomsday preppers. Though she is soft-spoken, Blair St Clair lead her team of unique queens to a somewhat-success, entertaining the judges throughout their filming. Nothing is more fun than a doomsday wedding!
Captain Monét X Change was given 'Madam Buttrface' to advertise with her team - Asia O'Hara, Yuhua Hamasaki and Aquaria. Despite some out-spoken team members, Monét manages to reign them in and give a ugly performance that the judges loved. Asia's facial expressions left the judges in stitches however Yuhua's performance was confusing and her look wasn't ugly enough. It's not often you're told you're too pretty!
The final team was lead by Monique Heart who had the app 'Fibstr' for pathological liars. Teammates Kameron Michaels, Dusty Ray Bottoms and Mayhem Miller struggled to find ideas for their app. While Monique was a gracious leader, Mayhem didn't stand up for herself and her role as narrator was switched with Kameron. The filming process left the judges wanting more especially from Mayhem and Kameron but very entertained by Monique's self directing skills.
While the queens got ready, Dusty opened up about her upbringing and the difficulties of coming out as gay in a super religious household. Speaking of her experiences with exorcisms and therapy, she notes it was the best decision she ever made to pack up her car and move to NYC. Meanwhile the drama between The Vixen and Aquaria continues only to be interrupted by a special visitor - a large spider.
The runway theme was Feathers and gave the viewers some spectacular looks - from Kameron Michaels 'Malificher' look (as Carson describes it) to Asia's campy Tweety Bird outfit.
Though they did the group challenge in teams, each queen was judged as an individual. Aquaria, Dusty Ray Bottoms, The Vixen, Miz Cracker, Monét X Change and Monique Heart were declared safe and headed backstage (for a very dramatic episode of Untucked).
The top 3 of the week were Asia O'Hara, Eureka and Blair St Clair while the bottom was Kameron Michaels, Yuhua Hamasaki and Mayhem Miller.
Blair's look was not favoured by Michelle but she was praised for her performance and leadership in the maxi-challenge. Eureka's performance and outfit was received well by the judges, especially since they have seen her come out from her shell and succeed after last week's poor performance. On the other hand, Mayhem was critiqued for not doing well in the challenge as she didn't fully embrace her character.
Kameron's look was adored by judges however her performance was flat. Asia O'Hara was commended for both her performance and her look as she shined even when the spotlight wasn't on her. Yuhua Hamasaki was the last to be judged but unfortunately the judges didn't get her look - feeling as if her makeup and hair didn't connect with the outfit choice. Along with her bad performance in the dating app challenge, this was not Yuhua's night.
Asia O'Hara was clearly the judges favourite and was declared the winner of episode 3. The bottom two for the night was Mayhem and Yuhua who lip-synced to Celebrity Skin by Hole.
Yuhua's bad luck streak continued as she lost the lip-sync, having to sashay away from the competition. Three queens down, eleven to go.
My top TOOT of the week is a tie between Kameron Michaels and Miz Cracker.
Both looks were beautiful and represented the runway theme perfectly. The story behind Cracker's bluebird look was touching too.
The top BOOT of the week is Dusty Ray Bottoms. It's evident she was looking for a peacock showgirl look but the strange circles of feathers and the eyelashes mixed with the flat red wig were a big miss for me.
